Before you start looking for a home, you should consult a mortgage professional to see what you can afford. You may also want to ask your mortgage professional what type of first time home buyer programs they have available. Some companies still have Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) grants available which can provide you with up to $7500 towards your down payment and closing cost. There is also the Maryland Mortgage Program that has several grants available including Community Development Administration (CDA), house keys 4 employees and MALP. There are restrictions and qualifications for all of these programs, so it is best to talk with your mortgage professional to see which one(s) will work for you.

Once you have talked to your lender and determined how much you can afford, you can start looking for your new home.
